From Blah to Oasis!

I've had the painting itch for a while now and DH has been holding me back but this weekend he was unable to hold me back anymore. School is out for the summer, and I was eager for a project to occupy my free time.

I have been convinced for a while now that our laundry room could look a million times better than it is - with just a coat of paint and some organization. I'm here today to prove to you that it can be done.

Last weekend we started this project while working on our garden addition and built a shelf for in between the washer and dryer.

I painted it black hoping it would be enough of a change for me... but it wasn't
We started with typical laundry room - blah walls, chaos, and kitty litter mess.
As you can see, we had a variety of paint choices to choose from, and I have to say DH made a fine choice. I wasn't too sure about it but it turned out perfectly!
Then the hubby cleared out the room and taped the entire room for me - I'm so lucky!
Then it was time to paint - it was a lot harder to paint than I had originally anticipated, and  took forever!
But lo and behold, we have a finished product at last!
Just the laundry machines and shelving...
From the door, looking in...
all organized and decorated - I love the blue against the black!
Kitty Station - the tote is now blue so as to better coordinate
So dear Readers - what do you think?

I love it  - it makes me happy when I go in there now - so pretty and clean!

Yard Project #2 - Dog Barrier

Hubby and I were out in our backyard admiring our raised garden bed and the growth of the plants so far and then took a peek at the other side of our yard.

It was not a lovely sight. The garden bed was overgrown, ill-defined, and frankly, a bit of an eyesore. So we decided to turn the day into project day.

First we cleared the garden bed:
Looks better already, don't you think?

Then we went to the store to purchase our supplies. We weren't sure if we wanted to build a matching garden bed to what we already had, line with pavers for a completely new look, or go with something previously not thought of. While at the store we perused many options and had several heated debates, but finally found something that was budget-friendly and pretty. We made ourselves a customized version of the picket fence.

First we weather and water-proofed our wood:

Then the hubby started to create the wonder that would become our new garden bed.
All his hard work paid off - and we were left with:
Panel 1
Both panels in
and final product
Didn't he do a fantastic job? I am completely in love, and it is working quite perfectly - the dog has not once tried to get into the bed and lay in the dirt! Success!
