An unexpected pleasure

After not sleeping last night, and me teaching all day, we decided to head out to the coast for a bit this evening. We haven't been out since our camping trip to Nehalem, and it was starting to wear on Herman. (He gets grumpy if he doesn't get to see and smell the ocean about once a month)

So, after work I changed clothes and we drove the hour trip to the coast. We got there around what would have been sunset had it been clear, and walked around a bit. We ate dinner at a dive place with good burgers, and after walking around a bit more, headed back home. I was finally able to catch a few zzz's and now I'm off to try and get some real sleep.

I wish we did more impromptu trips together. It was a nice evening.

Keeping Busy

So Herman's 2 weeks were up a week ago, and he has been home all this week. It has been a blessing because he has done all the things I never have either the time or energy to do, especially thoroughly cleaning the apartment. Our place has never looked so good. He has applied for several jobs, but hasn't had any calls yet.

This break has been really good for our marriage. He has more time to spend with me, and I can actually focus on him because I don't have a huge list of to-do's hanging over my head. He even made me a steak dinner last night, complete with homemade fries and salad.

Things at work are going better. There are still some bumps in the road, but overall the road is getting smoother and I'm feeling good about the direction my class is going. I have my first formal evaluation coming up this week, and yes, it happens to be on Halloween. Not my first choice, but hopefully it will be ok.

We are going to the corn maze tonight with friends. It is our annual tradition, and its even nice out, so it won't be a lake of mud like it was last year. :)
Happy Fall!

Its now October...

and life has been busy.

Herman put in his two weeks notice at work last week, and is currently sitting beside me looking for a new job. He had been shorted hours at work, and has been on a crew that is stressful.

I have been busy with school, teaching and having fun. Last week was stress overload because we had an INCREDIBLY painful training to attend, and grades were due early for me. I also got to be a part of an advice panel for current education majors at my alma mater, and am starting to think about going back there to get my masters, if I can afford it.

But, Herman and I have had a few really good weekends. Last weekend was relaxing, and this weekend we explored Portland. We took my friend and her baby to Roloff Farms, where I got some amazing shots of her 11 month old baby girl. I will admit... I've been bitten by the baby bug.

Today, Herman and I went to the Blazers game. We scored free 8th row seats, and had a blast. We had culture shock riding the max to and from the game, but treated ourselves to dinner at Kells, Herman's favorite restaurant.

Now, we're both gearing up for the week ahead. I am facing conferences, and Herman is finishing his last week at his job. Next weekend is pumpkin hunting, corn mazing... and the weekend after that... haunted house fun. Can't wait!
