We have been married 1 year!

Happy Anniversary to us!

We just got back from a wonderful trip to Seattle where we semi-celebrated our wedding anniversary while visiting with friends and attending my godfather's 80th birthday party.

Here's a look back on our 1st year as man and wife.

  • Married July 29th, 2007 in Kodiak AK.
  • Attended my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary the weekend after our wedding and met my biological mother for the first time since I was 3.
  • Moved back to Portland and found a townhome close to everything we wanted.
  • Took in a roommate, a classmate from college.
  • I found a part time job in a behavior classroom in N Portland, and also subbed, he worked construction.
  • Had 2 Thanksgivings this year, one at Herman's sister's house, and one at my brother's. Best Turkey ever!
  • We stayed home for Christmas and made a delicious meal.
  • January we flew to Anchorage to be with Herman's dad who was in very critical condition, thankfully he is fine now.
  • February brought a new job for Herman, struggles at work for me, and a quiet valentines day evening at home for us.
  • March plodded on with some cat health problems
  • April we moved into a new place after finding out that our lease was unexpectedly up. We love it here. (Roommate came along for the ride too)
  • In May, Herman's brother got married and came for a visit with his new bride, and I found out that I was back on the job hunt. I found a fabulous nanny job for the summer and began my search for a new position.
  • In June, I finished up my part time position and watched my 8th graders walk across the stage. Herman's uncle passed away rather suddenly from a late diagnosis of cancer. Herman's dad flew down and stayed with us for a while and we did the touristy thing. My youngest brother came down for a bit as well. Talk about a full house. I began my nanny job, and Herman continued working with cell phone towers.
  • Now its July, we've laid low, worked, and enjoyed the hot summer. It has been the first summer that Herman hasn't been in AK fishing, so that has been an adjustment.
One year has just flown by, and we look forward to many many more years together.
Here is the prayer that we had on our wedding programs 1 year ago.

Prayer For Marriage

Lord Jesus Christ our God, we thank You for the day on which by your heavenly benediction You joined us in the sacrament of marriage. We implore you, O merciful Lord: Help us to remember that marriage is indeed holy, and strengthen the sanctity of our union. Shower Your grace upon us and continue to bless and enrich our marriage in love, companionship, mutual support, oneness of heart and progress in faith and life. Protect our holy wedlock from sin, evil, and danger. Teach us to honor and fully trust each other. Foster between us the spirit of understanding, the spirit of forgiveness, and the spirit of peace, that no resentment, quarrel, or other problem cause us to stumble and fall. Grant us to see our own faults and not to judge each other. Keep our bond of love always new. Gladden our lives with the joys and fruits of marriage, that with one heart we may praise and glorify You.

In Your compassion watch over and bless us from all seen and unseen enemies. Grant us health and complete wisdom so that we may fulfill all our obligations according to Your will and commandments. Protect us from all temptations, which we do not have the strength to resist. Strengthen us in the right faith and in perfect love, that we may live together in virtue and direct our lives according to your precepts.

Bestow on us Your blessings, and in Your mercy, count us worthy of Your kingdom: for You are our sanctification, and we offer glory to You with the Father and the Holy Spirit; now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen

Fantastic News!

Today I was offered a job that I interviewed for last week! I was supposed to be called on the 21st if I made it to 2nd round interviews, but I received a call today from the VP telling me that they didn't even want to bother doing round 2 interviews, it was unanimous, they want me! I am thrilled.

Yesterday I had an interview for a language arts/reading position at another school, but was worried because at the end of the interview the principal mentioned that I would be a floating teacher (without my own classroom) until at least February due to the school currently being under construction.

Luckily with the position I was offered, I get my own classroom. I can go in Monday and take care of paperwork, see my new classroom, and begin planning my first year of teaching social studies infused language arts.

I am on cloud nine! When I told Herman his voice got all high.... for a second I thought he just might be more excited than I was.
