I feel like a bad blogger lately. There have been many things worth writing about for our loved ones to follow, but not enough time in the day. Granted, instead of sitting down to blog, I read other peoples' blogs, watch TV and lay around being lazy.
However today I feel the desire to catch you all up on what has been going on in our home. As I said, a lot has gone on since March. We returned from our Seattle trip and life settled back into its routine.
Work for me has been an almost constant battle. As it is spring, many of my students, especially the 8th graders, feeling the end of their middle school experience ending are starting to act out. It has required me to be more harsh with them that I would ordinarily be, in order to try and nip their misbehavior in the bud. It has kinda worked. I have also gotten a few children who have been more difficult that I've been used to. I'm both looking forward to the end of the year and dreading it. I will miss my kids dreadfully.
That brings me to the point I am at now. I am currently back on the job hunt. I hope to get a job at my current school, but at this point, that isn't looking very likely, as all the LA positions have been filled already. I'm bummed, but determined to find a job this summer so that I don't have to sub again next year.
I also have a fabulous summer job lined up. I am really excited about it. I know I swore I wouldn't nanny again during summers, but this family seems wonderful. The kids are amazing and funny and well mannered. The parents are fairly laid back, but have already imposed clear expectations for the kids behavior. I love it. The pay is good and the perks even nicer. It should be a fabulous summer.
Herman is still working at his current job, doing the cell tower thing. There have been a few weeks when his hours haven't been great, which set us back financially, but they are picking up again.
Of course, when the hours dropped off is right when we were moving. That's right, we've moved. We found out in late March that our lease had been up the end of February (a 6 month lease instead of the 1 year we thought we had signed) and we took that opportunity to leave our old apartment community which we really did not like, and moved into one that is WAY nicer. We still have a roommate, but now have a 3 bedroom place, so we have our guestroom back. We absolutely love our new place. (As it is a 3rd floor apartment, we plan on staying a while... don't want to move our stuff up and down 3 flights of stairs again).
As we have our guestroom back again, we are finally able to entertain out of town guests. My friend Lindsay (also a bridesmaid) from highschool and her boyfriend came up last weekend and we did the touristy thing with them which was a blast. This weekend Herman's brother is getting married in AK, then flying down here to be with us Monday - Tuesday morning. Then later this month Herman's friend Oz is coming down (along with hopefully a few others) and they will all be going rock climbing at Smith Rocks. It is a busy month, but we love having the company. Tonight or tomorrow my grandparents will be passing by on their way up to Seattle, and it will be wonderful to see them again.
Well that's enough for now... I will soon post pictures, perhaps even of our new fabulous place.
