The other day school was closed due to snow, and I found it quite funny what qualifies as significant snow (enough to close down schools) in different parts of the country.
In Alaska, where we just were, we had snow like this.....

... and STILL had school!
Here in Oregon, we had this.....

and school was cancelled! Crazy. In other news, Herman and I are doing well, although life could be better. Herman is starting to actively look for a new job, since the company he works for might be closing their doors, so it is a bit stressful trying to figure out where we are going financially. To supplement this, I have taken on more subbing jobs, am attending some paid extra classes and events, just to be positive that in this stage of transition, we have enough to cover bills.
We participated in our parish's Dinner for Six program last Sunday evening, and had a great time. As a result of this dinner, and the ensuing conversations, Herman is now a memeber of the men's snow camping group. He's rather excited that he is making new friends and is finally able to do such things again. I feel slightly out of the loop because both of the other couples have well started families, and I am the youngest one there. But I am happy that Herman has found some friends.
That's all for now... more to come later!
