2006 started off fairly rocky for Herman and I, as our relationship, especially the appropriateness of us getting married was called into question by our own actions. Yet with the guidance and support of those who love us, we were able to make it through all of the pain and grow stronger as a couple.
Herman spent the entire year working for a construction company, and while he complained often about it, truth be told he has it pretty good there. As 2007 begins, he is still with the company and taking on more responsibility.
I began the year in the midst of my advanced student teaching. I was paired with an advisor who scared me straight, and a teacher who continues to inspire me. It was during that time that I really realized what I wanted to do with my career.
May brought my graduation from college, something that at times I thought would never actually happen.
Herman and I traveled to Kodiak for the summer where he fished, and I threw together our wedding plans. We weren't sure if Herman was going to make it back in time for the wedding, but to the joy of the bride, he did, and the July 29th wedding went off without a hitch.
While up there I interviewed (via the phone) for many jobs, and was frustrated because nobody wanted to hire me without meeting me. In August when we returned home it was crunch time. I applied for anything and everything that I could possibly do, even ones I wasn't quite qualified for. The perfect job (in my opinion) asked me to come in for an interview and I was thrilled. Unfortunately they turned me down. A week later I saw that the job was posted again, so, tongue in cheek, I applied again. This time I conditionally got it. I started out as a long term sub, but they grew to like me, and so I was hired on officially.
Herman and I both worked hard but we still needed some financial help. We got a roommate, a friend of mine from college, and that has been working out better than anticipated.
We ended up changing parishes mid fall, which has been fantastic because we have been going to church more than in the past.
Thansgiving was spent with my brother, and Christmas on our own.
Overall it was a great year, filled with life changing events and educating experiences. May next year continue this tradition and be just as rewarding.
To all, Happy New Years~ may you live, laugh, grow, and love.
